Jazzercise® at the Stoneybrook Recreation Center

Did you know that Jazzercise® classes are available at the Stoneybrook Recreation Center?  This exercise program has been at Stoneybrook for four years.   Jazzercise® is a 60 minute exercise program with the overall goal of keeping you fit. What really makes Jazzercise® my choice for exercise is the dancing aspect.  Jazzercise® makes you feel happy as you dance and exercise simultaneously.  I learned from my first aerobics exercise instructor that if your workout gives you a high or turns you on, then you are hooked and will continue doing it. Well that is how Jazzercise® works for me.

Instructor

Sue Encke has been involved with Jazzercise® for fifteen years.  She is a certified Jazzercise instructor, who has been teaching classes at Stoneybrook since last August. “I enjoy the Stoneybrook community and the facility is beautiful.”   The cost is based on monthly rates.  One can register for seasonal or yearly periods of time. All members of the Stoneybrook group are also eligible to attend evening classes at Faith Bible Church sessions on Monday and Thursday Evenings.

When

Did you know that Sue provides mats & weights for class usage? You are also welcome to bring your own exercise equipment. Average attendance for each class is 15 to 20.  This fact means there is still room for you. Note this class is for men and women.  Class meetings are Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 6:45 and 9:30 on Saturday mornings. Class always starts on time.

Assistants

The Jazzercise® instructors always have assistants who greet you and handle the sign in process.  They track you class attendance and note significant dates such as 100 classes, 150 classes. My goal was to participate in 100 classes so I could obtain a Jazzercise® T-shirt illustrating this feat.

Keep On Dancing

Oh you say most exercise programs are accompanied by music.  This is true!  But what keeps you going.  Is it the style of the music or something else?   For some simply the love of dancing keeps them moving.   The Jazzercise® workout is not static.  What I like about Jazzercise® is the change of routines periodically.  The music also changes and is related to holidays.  As a class member at Stoneybrook you may request songs that are suitable for exercise. Another unique aspect of Jazzercise® is the fact that the instructor leads exercise on a platform so you can see her moves.

“Jazzercise offers an intense and fun total body workout,” said East Bradenton Jazzercise instructor Sue Encke.   “As a result of its dynamic and varied set structure, many people achieve their New Year’s Resolution fitness goals and continue to get fit and have fun with Jazzercise for years to come.”

I have never met such a caring group of instructors and staff. When I feel I cannot do something they encourage me to do what I can.  You know what? With effort I can do the workout even if I perform at the low intensity level.  The website for Jazzercise® is www.jazzercise.com  If you go there you will find a wealth of information.  To get started look at videos of basic moves. Do start with one section at a time so you will not be overwhelmed. So what are you waiting for?  Remember you may try the first class for free. Come to class and start dancing your way to being healthy and fit!  by Jean Arnold
