Mixed Doubles at Stoneybrook

Once a month there is a mixed doubles scramble at Stoneybrook Golf Course for residents and guests of Heritage Harbour.  The golf is relaxed and social.  The format is a scramble which means everyone hits their own drive shot (men use white, women use red) then each foresome plays the best shot of the four. They continue using the best shot until the ball goes in.  This format allows all level of players to comfortably play with each other.

The group takes over an entire section of the golf course so everyone starts and finishes at the same time.  Typically the start is 3 pm on the second Sunday every month.

After playing (about 2 1/2 hours) everyone goes back to the club house for drinks, a light dinner and prizes.  Each player contributes $5 and prizes are given for the best 3 foresomes of two different flights (a and b).  Top prize is about $15.

Normal fees apply (usually afternoon rates) for all players.

Stoneybrook Golf Course helps facilitate this activity but this great recreational golf opportunity is organized and run by Heritage Harbour residents.

Valentine's Day

February's Couples' Golf Scramble was held on Valentine's Day. Those who chose to celebrate the holiday on the golf course were treated to a "beat the pro" contest on the par 3 15th hole, and a specially prepared menu at the Stoneybrook Clubhouse Restaurant, in addition to the regular scramble event.

The "Beat the Pro" event was a one-hole scramble--a regular foursome against two pros.  Two of the groups, the Beams with the Brierleys and Kim/Kelly with the Hoffmans, were able to beat the pros with birdies.  The scramble event was large enough (64 players) to have two flights.

Harvey and Sarah Hoffman playing with Cha Kim and Paula Kelly won the “A” flight.

John and Diane Berkiw playing with Orville Eckler and Barbara Peabody won the “B” flight.

The highlight (especially for those who played poorly) of the event was the Valentine's Day menu that featured lobster, steak and shrimp, and shrimp scampi.  The food was superbly prepared by Chef Mike Voss and his helpers and was thoroughly enjoyed by all.  A special birthday cake was provided by Maita Bildner to honor Hal's birthday.

This event turned out to be a wonderful day, hopefully to be followed by many more.
