Harbour Hatties
In February of 2006, we were a new community and we sat at Monday morning coffee and tried to think of different ways we could get to know each other better. We came up with the idea of "Red Hats" and voted to called ourselves "The Harbour Hatties". We are not part of the national organization which was created for women over the age of 50 who wanted to have fun.
We are not quite 4 years old and not only have we enjoyed meeting each other, but we have forged life long friendships. We have 52 in our membership not only representing many states but representing 8 different countries. While having fun is a given, we have assumed many charity projects in the past 3 1/2 years. These include personal items for Hope Family Services, crayons and coloring books for Hope Family Services. Last year we made 250 poinsettia napkin rings for Meals on Wheels to be used for their Christmas lunch.
An on-going project is collecting used cell phones and phone cards for Hope Family Services. To date, we have delivered 123 cell phones and 51 phone cards.
At our community garage sale, this past year we held a bake sale to benefit SHARE OUR STRENGTH which insures that no child in America goes hungry. With great support from all the ladies and the community, we raised over $1,000 for this worthwhile charity.
We meet once a month for lunch and always celebrate those who are having birthdays that month.
Last year, we wanted to do something for the younger families in our community and we held BREAKFAST WITH SANTA for 68 children of our community. We had as much fun as the children!
While we are older....we have energy....we have spunk....we have enthusiasm....we have willing hands and servant hearts. We're ready for a good time...but we are not afraid to be busy helping our community be a wonderful place to live!
