Web Site Development
The Heritage Harbour Community web site is a community based web site that is owned and controlled by a group of homeowners in Heritage Harbour. It receives no funding from Lennar or any of the homeowner associations of Heritage Harbour. Our goal is to improve and expand the communications between all of the members of our community. Comments should be directed to W. Lee Bettes (wbettes@yahoo.com).
This is a non commercial website and we accept story submissions from anyone from our Heritage Harbour community. Stories need to be original pieces (not stories published first elsewhere) and need to be of interest to residents of Heritage Harbour. Generally we would like stories to be positive in tone. So far (1 1/2 years) we have only rejected 4 stories.
Guidelines for Story Submission
Content
All residents of Heritage Harbour are invited to submit announcements, reviews, stories and musings. Residents should feel free to share their news and/or creative thoughts about items that would be of interest to the readers. In addition to individual articles, the web home page will contain information from groups within our community of 900 homes such as the Harbour Hatties, Helping Hands and Neighborhood Watch, Heritage Harbour Master Association, Heritage Harbour South CDD and Stoneybrook Association.
Please understand that the webmaster and editors reserve the right to decide what information gets posted online. This is a community website and political or commercial agendas may not be included. Negative or adverse comments about an individual or organization are unacceptable. Articles should be fair and accurate. For example, a food review should be objective and provide specific details about the restaurant which would include the décor, service and food.
Technical Submission
Use this document as an example of how to prepare your submission. The article should be prepared and saved as a standard Microsoft Word document. (Microsoft Word .doc) or as a simple e-mail.
The document should be single spaced in Arial Narrow Font size 12 that is left justified with default margins in Microsoft Word.
The text color should be black. However, special accommodations may be made as needed.
If a web address is used, please include the complete URL as below:
www.heritageharbourcommunity.com
When the article is transferred to the web page the main headlines will convert to a font size of 24 and the small headlines will convert to font size of 18. In addition, the headlines will change to a green color. The writer does not need to be concerned about these matters.
Copy Editors
We have a number of grammatically correct writers who can help you with the writing process. They are available to be of assistance to you and are not going to judge your writing.
Photography
Everyone is encouraged to submit photographs for the website. A few simple rules would help in the administration of the photographs.
E mail them to wbettes@yahoo.com
We need electronic images with each photograph ending in .jpg and beginning with a descriptive name with no blanks. An example might be dancing_children.jpg
If you have photo editing software we would ask that you crop the photo to 350 px by 250 px. This is the size of the opening on our main slide show on the center of our main page. You should also save the photograph as a web photo. (In Photoshop that would be a quality 4. This should reduce the image size to about 200k.
If you are submitting multiple photographs please put them in a folder and attach the folder to your e mail.
Slide shows
Slide shows need 5 to 10 photographs. More than that starts to slow down the web page. The slide show software has some “smarts” built into it so it can handle small sizing problems but its works best with consistent sized pictures. If you can’t do pixels (px) then use something like 4 inch by 3 inch pictures.
Content
These will be fairly small pictures as they appear on the web page so we would encourage you to crop the photographs tightly. For example at a dinner event don’t shoot the entire room but take pictures of 2-4 people smiling.
